Overview
Laser therapy can make orthodontic care faster, cleaner, and more comfortable. At Brace Yourself Orthodontics, Dr. Jay uses a gentle soft tissue laser to shape gums, free tight attachments, uncover tooth edges for brackets, and calm irritated spots so treatment can move forward with confidence.
What is Laser Therapy?
We use a focused beam of light to precisely treat the gum and oral soft tissues. The laser seals as it works, which helps control bleeding and keeps the area clean. Most visits are quick and require only a small amount of topical or local anesthetic. Many patients return to normal routines the same day.
Who it Helps
- Patients who need a little more tooth showing so brackets or attachments can be placed.
- Patients with extra gum tissue that hides their smile line.
- Patients with a thick or tight frenum under the lip or tongue that affects spacing or comfort.
- Patients with small irritated areas, canker sores, or cold sores that need relief.
Benefits of Laser Therapy
- Cleaner access for braces or aligners
- Improved gum contours and smile symmetry
- Minimal bleeding with precise control
- Little to no sutures in most cases
- Fast healing and quick appointments
How a Laser Visit Works
Dr. Jay evaluates your gums and treatment goals, then reviews a simple plan. A topical or small local anesthetic keeps you comfortable. The laser gently contours or releases the tissue as needed, and the area is smoothed and sealed. If the goal is bracket or attachment placement, it can often happen immediately after the laser step so treatment stays on schedule.

How long is the appointment?

Will my gums grow back?
Gums generally heal to their new contour when cared for properly. Dr. Jay will review how to maintain a healthy smile line.
Aftercare and Healing
Expect mild tenderness for a day or two. Stick to soft, cool foods at first and keep the area clean with gentle brushing. Rinse with lukewarm salt water or a fluoride mouthwash as directed. Avoid very spicy, hard, or sticky foods until tenderness fades. If a wax barrier helps, place a small piece over braces near the treated area. Call our office if anything feels loose or rubs.
